Centrally located in Stevens Point, the Inn On Main Street, LLC., resides across from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s “Old Main”. Surrounded by tall, stately trees, this lannon stone colonial revival home was built in 1922 for the second president, John Sims, of the then Normal School. Look forward to being greeted with a warm smile and a friendly handshake. Start your day with a fresh brewed cup of coffee and a delectable breakfast in the charming dining room. The innkeepers are always ready to help you with your day’s activities, whether it entails biking or hiking the 30 mile Green Circle trail or canoeing/kayaking on one of the nearby rivers. If golf is your interest, beautiful courses are waiting for your tee time. The resident Inn fishing guide can be available to take you on a fishing journey for walleyes, smallmouth, and largemouth bass. If you are looking for a laid back day, wander the historic downtown area. Visit the quaint shops, the antique stores, and the new beautiful murals. Stroll the river walk and stop by the Riverfront Arts Museum. If winter is your favorite time of the year, the pristine snowfall and groomed trails will be waiting for your cross-country skis. Toboggan runs and sled hills in the nearby city park echo with laughter and fun. After your busy day, enjoy interesting conversations with a glass of wine either before the warmth of the fireplace in the cottage-style living room or under the umbrella on a sunny deck. The Sims guest room, with a queen size bed, will inspire you with its library décor. Curl up in the wingchair with the Normal School’s 1923 yearbook and read about yesteryear’s students or sit at the antique ladies desk to write some notes. This room has a private bath.
Photography and newspaper print is the main background of the Leahy guest room. Named after the second owner, Weldon Leahy, who was the publisher of the Stevens Point Journal, this room is a tribute to the works of the newspaper industry. While sitting at the antique secretary’s desk, notice the old typesetting used in early years of printing. An antique typewriter shows how far we have advanced in our technology. This room has a king size bed which can be separated in to two twin beds and shares a bathroom across the hall.
The Alyce Mae Martin is a quaint and very cozy guest room with a full size brass bed and shares a bathroom next door. Named after the innkeeper’s grandmother, this room has Alyce’s brass bed and hatbox dresser from the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. The Martins were instrumental figures in the beginnings of Stevens Point. Hiram Martin and his brother Jesse were loggers that worked along side of George Stevens. Hiram later went on to become the city’s first treasurer in 1848 and in 1889 became the city’s mayor.
