Some of our state's most recognizable landmarks are found in Madison, including the state capitol, with its striking resemblance to our nation's capitol, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. Spend a Saturday morning strolling the farmers' market on the capitol square, or take in a Badger football game at Camp Randall.
To the west of Madison, the region takes on a different flavor, say of mustard, cheese and microbreweries. In Mt. Horeb, there's the world famous mustard museum. In Monroe, cheese makers with gold medal pedigrees abound. And in New Glarus, America's “Little Switzerland,” the New Glarus Brewing Company is a favorite stop.
To the east of Madison is Eagle, site of Old World Wisconsin. With its historic farm and village buildings, this museum is the largest of its kind in the world dedicated to the history of rural life. To the south, Lake Geneva is a favorite haunt for well-heeled travelers who like to bask in the sun, spend a day cruising the lake, then take a driving tour past regal mansions.
